"Ha Ha", cried the ox. “I can't believe I have a big package and you got a small package!”

The horse frowned in embarrassment.

Then the ox opened his package and bellowed, “A set of books?! This isn't what I wanted!”

Be Careful What You Wish For -- You Just Might Get It
Briana, 10, New York
The moral of my fable isBe careful what you wish for.
My fable is:

Once in a small city named "Catville" a carnival was being held. Standing next to one of the scariest rides, a 10 year old was about to board.

"Absolutely not young lady!", yelled the mother cat to the 10 year old. "That ride is not for your age!" "But mom!", begged the cat named Kitty. “I can't just go around as a loser with a snobbish mom!"

Kitty pouted. "No cat of mine is going to get hurt."

With that, Kitty ran to a strange door. She found an old cat sitting at a crystal ball. "I can see your future. Give me your wish and I will grant it", said the old cat in a fluttery voice.

Kitty was so mad that she said, "I wish I had a different mom!" "Wish granted!", said the old cat.

Yeah right, thought Kitty.

She ran outside and she couldn't find her mom. Maybe she went home, thought Kitty. She found her mom sitting on a different doorstep. "Mom! Thank goodness I found you! I am really hungry, so for dinner I would like a Caesar salad with parmesan cheese."

"I am not your mother!" "Yes you are!", Kitty yelled.

But right then and there, she heard a strange cat calling her name.

The Very Mean Wolf
Brianna, 11, Rochester, NY
The moral of my fable isCare for others because one day when you need them, they might not be there for you.
My fable is:

In the woods of Lancaster, NY lived a pack of wolfs. There was a mean grey wolf, a very calm black wolf, a very daring white wolf, and the youngest, the auburn wolf.

Since the grey wolf was the oldest, he was the alpha. The black, white, and auburn wolf were not pleased with this. They were not pleased with this because the grey wolf was mean, controlling, and he would bite the others, and the others couldn’t do anything about it.

Well, anything except run away.

When the white, black, and auburn wolves couldn’t deal with the rudeness of the grey wolf, they escaped to Oklahoma. When the grey wolf finally realized that his brothers and sisters had left he just said, "Humph! Well I guess I have the cave to myself!"

As days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, and months turned into years, the wolf grew old. The old mean, lonely, grey wolf, looked up towards to the starry midnight sky, saddened by what he had done in his lonely life. He cried out, "Brothers, sisters! Were have you gone? Please come back! I’m sorry for what I have done! I'm guilty of being mean to you! But please! I need you now! I'm your alpha! Remember?"

But sadly, only silence came and returned him to his deep, depressing sorrow. The grey wolf finally came to his senses, and realized how rude he was. He hung his head down low, but as he looked down, he saw the now green, mossy paw prints of his brothers and sisters engraved into the soil.... an unfortunate reminder of his long lost sorrow.

The Dorks
Ryan, 11, New York
The moral of my fable isDon't pretend to be someone you're not.
My fable is:

One rainy Thursday afternoon Fluffy the Koala Bear, Spots the Giraffe, and Smalls the Elephant were walking down the halls of their school.

They were having a wonderful time, and then all of a sudden Smalls the Elephant shouted, "I'm sick of being a dork... sick of it!"

Then he stormed off.

Later that afternoon, Fluffy the Koala Bear and Spots the Giraffe saw Smalls the Elephant hanging with the jocks, but he didn't fit in because he was on the porkier side.

Fluffy the Koala Bear and Spots the Giraffe pulled over a different dork and laughed as loud as they could until their guts started hurting.

Smalls the Elephant got really jealous and walked over to the dorks, pushed the new dork aside, and apologized to Fluffy the Elephant and Spots the Giraffe.
