The Cat And Dog
Lea, 8, Japan
The moral of my fable isDon't fool around because you need to concentrate on what you're doing.

My fable is:

One day a dog was running errands. A cat showed up and said, "Howdy there partner!"

The dog got distracted and and said, "Hi".

They played together. It got late.

The dog didn't get his errands done.

He got in real serious trouble!

The Two Squirrels, Pete & Avery
Maddie, 11, United States
The moral of my fable is:  Don't steal anyone's stuff!!!!!

My fable is:

There was once a squirrel named Pete who had collected six peanuts to eat for breakfast the next day.

While he was sleeping another squirrel named Avery snuck into his house and took the peanuts.

But fortunately Pete knew Avery was a very sneaky and mean squirrel. So when Pete woke up the next day and didn't find his peanuts he went straight to Avery's house.

When he got there Avery answered the door and had a scared look on his face. Pete sat Avery down and gave him a little talk. After that Avery never did another thing like that.

The Ants And The Grasshopper
Tia, 8, England
The moral of my fable is:  A smart person puts something away for when times are bad.

My fable is:

It was summer and grasshopper was singing in the sun while all the ants where gathering nuts and leaves for the winter.

Then winter came. Poor grasshopper was starving because he didn't store food in the summer.

So grasshopper went to the ants for some food. "Can I have some food?" asked the grasshopper.

"Then what were you doing while we were storing food?" asked the ants.

"I was singing", replied the grasshopper. "Then start dancing and see where that leads you", said the ants.

The Caterpillar And The Worm
Jackson, 9, Arkansas
The moral of my fable is:  Do unto others as you want them to do unto you.

My fable is:

There once was a selfish worm who lived in an apple tree. One day a poor little caterpillar came to him and asked for a little food.

The worm would never share with anyone, so he said, "Get your own!"

So the caterpillar went around the entire forest carrying oranges, bananas, strawberries, wheat, herbs, and water. He invited all his friends in the jungle (except the worm) for a feast in his tree.

Meanwhile, the worm ran out of food, but the caterpillar had taken all the available food for miles around. He asked the caterpillar for some food, and he said, "Get your own!".

The Ant And The Grasshopper
Melita, 12, United States
The moral of my fable is:  Laziness is a curse!!!

My fable is:

One summer day a grasshopper was singing and chirping and hopping about. He was having a wonderful time.

He saw an ant who was busy gathering and storing grain for the winter. "Stop and talk to me",” said the grasshopper. "We can sing some songs and dance a while."

"Oh no", said the ant. "Winter is coming. I am storing up food for the winter. I think you should do the same".

"Oh, I can’t be bothered", said the grasshopper. "Winter is a long time off. There is plenty of food."

So the grasshopper continued to dance and sing and chirp and the ant continued to work.

When winter came the grasshopper had no food and was starving. He went to the ant’s house and asked, "Can I have some wheat or maybe a few kernels of corn? Without it I will starve", whined the grasshopper.

"You danced last summer", said the ants in disgust. "You can continue to dance." And they gave him no food.

The Chinese New Year
Elly, 10, Jacksonville, Florida
The moral of my fable is:  Just because they're not like you it doesn't mean they're not nice.

My fable is:

Once there was a small town in a clearing in the woods called New Years town. All of the Chinese New Year animals lived there. These animals included Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. There was also a wise owl who made sure that each animal was chosen for a year and that no one was chosen two years in a row.

It was a small town. It had a small grocery store where you could buy yummy new year candy and thousand layer cake and lots of other things. The animals each had their own house. They were all just a little bigger than a cat so their houses were probably the size of of two dollhouses put together.

One day a family of cats wandered into New Years town. When the cats came through, the smallest kitten stopped. It decided to stay in the town. But the Rat did not want the kitten to stay. "It will eat me so it can steal my year", said the Rat. After all, he was the one who forgot to wake the cat for the race to decide who would have a year named after them. So why wouldn't he think that?

But everyone else loved the little kitten. So they named her Xiao3, which is small in Chinese. Xiao3 loved each and every animal, since they treated her like their daughter.

Soon the Rat began to see that Xiao3 wasn't trying to eat him or steal his year, so he began to love her too. He bought her treats like new year candy and built her a house like everyone else had. And he brought her milk to drink.

The Wolf And The Spider
Aaina, 7, India
The moral of my fable isTreat others the way you want to be treated.

My fable is:

One day there was a wolf and a spider. The wolf was very mean to the spider.

Then one day the spider was very mean to the wolf. He did the same thing to the spider yesterday.

Then one day the wolf thought. "If I wanted to be treated nicely, then I should be nice to the spider".

So the next morning the wolf was nice to spider and the spider was nice to the wolf because the wolf was nice to the spider.
