The Ugly Butterfly
Sara, 9, North Carolina
The moral of my fable is:  Don't be jealous of others.
My fable is:

One sunny afternoon there was a young butterfly sitting on a rock. All of her friends had rainbow wings, some with polka dots, and others evenly striped.

But she was just gray not a single drop of color. So she went to her mom and cried, "Mama, mama when will I get my colors". "I don't know baby you will get them soon". Baby could not wait to get her colors. She looked out the window at her friends she was jealous.

So jealous was she that she hatched a plan. She knew about the hardware store down the road. Baby bought red, blue, and yellow paint. She threw paint on her wings. She tried to fly but the paint was to heavy. So she dragged her wings all the way home. She cried, "Mama, mama I painted my wings and the paint was to heavy. Now it won't come off".

"It's okay baby. Let's go take a bath and try to get it off".

She got in, scrubbed as hard as she could and it came off.

Not only did the paint come off, but so did the gray. When she saw herself in the mirror she couldn't believe what she saw. "Mama, mama I finally got my colors!". They were rainbow, striped and polka dot. She was so beautiful that her friends became jealous of her.
