The Frogs And The Elephant Try To Escape
Logan, 13, Georgia, USA
The moral of my fable isLittle things come in big packages.
My fable is:

Once upon a time there was a zoo in New York with a lot of old animals. Every day less and less people would come and visit the zoo and the people who did visit would only visit the elephants.

The elephants thought they were the biggest and best. They would make fun of the small animals especially the small frogs. “Look at how small you are. You are nothing compared to us”, the elephants laughed at the frogs. The frogs heard this every day but what could they do? They were really small compared to the elephants.

One day all the animals had a zoo meeting. All the animals were there. Even the ants from outside the zoo could come because the ants were friends of all the animals. “What are we going to do? The zoo worker said that they were going to get rid of us in a few days”, an animal screamed. The ants had overheard the workers talking about getting rid of the animals. All the animals were scared because they didn’t know what get rid of them meant.

The elephants suggested that they escape. “We need to get out of here”, the elephants declared. “How are we going to get out of here? If we were to get out, where would we go?”, the frogs inquired. All the animals were thinking and then the elephants shouted, “We can knock down the gates!”.

All the animals were excited. They couldn’t wait to get out of that zoo.

The ants had seen that there was a ship at the docks that was leaving to go to Africa the next night. It was official. The elephants were going to knock down the gates and the animals were all going to get on the ship to Africa the next night.

The next day, the frogs went over to elephants as they were packing their bags and asked, “Why are you guys going to knock down the gates? I mean no offense but you will make a lot of noise”. The elephants looked at the frogs like they were crazy. The elephants just laughed at the frogs. “And will you push the gates open yourself? Listen, you are small, and we are big so just stay out of our way”, chortled the elephants.

That night everyone was ready. All the animals surrounded the gates waiting for the elephants to open them. The elephants started to charge to the gate. Every step the elephants took made a louder sound. Just before the elephants got to the gate the midnight workers showed up. The animals scattered from the gateway and hid. The elephants were left with the workers. The workers put the elephants back in their cages. All the animals jumped from their hiding places and stood there wondering what they were going to do.

It was then that the frogs saw that there was a button above the gates. If they pushed it, hopefully it would open the gates. The frogs jumped up higher and higher until they finally hit the button. The gates swung open without a sound. The animals scampered out the gate doors. They ran down to the docks to catch the boat. The animals all piled onto the ship as it headed out to sea towards Africa.

The elephants watched wistfully from their cages as the ship left the docks. The frogs turned around and sang, “Look at this; big things can come in little packages. Even though we’re small, we have a lot to offer".
