The Seal And The Polar Bear
Savannah, 10, Minnesota
The moral of my fable isDon't judge a book by its cover.
My fable is:

On a wonderful morning in springtime in Antarctica, a seal was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. The seal's name was Summer. Summer was named after her mother. Summer was very much afraid of polar bears.

One day she ran into a polar bear. The polar bear was named Snowtime. Snowtime was a boy. He was very scared of seals. He was afraid because he was a vegetarian. He never eats meat.

When Snowtime saw the seal, who was Summer, he screamed. When Summer saw Snowtime, she screamed. They were both screaming!

Summer expected Snowtime to eat her, but he didn't. Snowtime asked, "Why are you screaming?" Summer said, "Because you are big and have big claws and big teeth!"

She didn't realize that Snowtime was crying. "Why are you crying?" Summer asked. "You made me feel bad," said Snowtime. "I'm sorry, but aren't you going to eat me?" "No, I am a vegetarian", said Snowtime.

"I'm sorry that I was screaming." Summer giggled a little. Summer saw a tear roll down Snowtime's face. "It's okay. Do you want to be my first seal friend?", asked Snowtime. "Sure, I would love to be your friend!", exclaimed Summer.

They became friends and did everything together!

The Falcon And The Gerbil
Calli, 10, Minnesota
The moral of my fable isDo to others as you would like them to do to you.
My fable is:

Once there was a falcon named Coconut and a gerbil named Scamper. They lived in a cage together.

One day Coconut said, "Scamper, you're small and I'm big. I am powerful and you're weak. HA! HA! HA!"

"Thanks for telling me how you feel about me", Scamper said in a soft voice.

Coconut was surprised at Scamper's reaction. He thought that Scamper would yell and beg Coconut to have mercy on him. This made him change his ways. He thought that he could use his talents and abilities for good ways instead of bad ways.

Now Coconut is nice to every living creature. He even was nice to bugs on the trees. He couldn't stand the thought of eating meat so he became a vegetarian.

The Lion And The Eagle
LaQwan, 10, Minnesota
The moral of my fable isCheaters never win and winners never cheat!
My fable is:

Once upon a time there lived a lion and an eagle. The Lion hated the Eagle because Eagle always won at all of the games. Lion always lost.

One day Lion challenged Eagle to a pie eating contest. Eagle said, "YES!" The Lion had a smile on his face and said, "Oh, I won't cheat!"

The big day arrived in California. There were two judges for the pie eating contest.

But before they started, the Lion put a dog under the table so he would win the contest. The contest began. Lion ate 30 pies, so did Eagle. Eagle ate 50 pies, so did Lion. They both were on pie number 99 at the same time. There was only one more pie to go.

Eagle picked it up and started to eat the pie slowly. Lion picked up pie number 100 and slowly put it under the table. The dog ate his last pie very quickly! Then he slowly put the empty pie plate back onto the table.

The judges announced, "Lion is the winner!" He received a big gold trophy.

Over the next two hours, while they were cleaning up the pie mess, they noticed dog paw prints on the ground under the table. They followed the paw prints to see Lion petting his pet dog. They overheard Lion say, "Good boy for eating the last pie so I could win the contest and receive this great trophy!"

The angry judges walked over to the Lion and took away his trophy. They gave the trophy the real winner of the contest, the Eagle! Lion was sad! We don't know if Lion learned his lesson, but someday he will be tested again. If he cheats, he will lose again.

The Elephant And The Dog
Claire, 10, Minnesota

They met at the park early one morning. Henry saw that Rose was blind so he decided to trip her. She fell and started to cry. Henry started laughing and walked away.

Then, when he wasn't looking, a bigger elephant tripped Henry. Henry fell to the ground. Rose walked over to Henry to help him stand up. Henry was surprised that Rose was going to help him after he had hurt her.

He asked Rose why would she do such a thing when he had been mean to her. Rose said to Henry, "You should do to others as you would like them to do to you".

Minne And DeVonte
Terran, 10, Minnesota
The moral of my fable isDon't judge a book by its cover.
My fable is:

One day a duck named Minnie and an alligator named DeVonte were walking to school.

Minnie was a really tiny duck. She has mixed yellow and orange feathers. She had a really squeaky voice. DeVonte was really mean. He was dark green in color. He had a lot of bumps on his back with a deep voice.

When they got to class, DeVonte started making fun of Minnie. Minnie felt mad and sad at the same time. Devonte thought that Minnie was lazy because she was wearing dirty clothes. Minnie wasn't really lazy though, she had just fallen into the mud and didn't have time to get cleaned up.

Minnie said, "I know you talk about me, but it doesn't hurt my feelings anymore".

DeVonte said, "I don't care. You are still lazy!" Minnie just walked away.

The next day, the teacher put DeVonte and Minnie together as partners to work on a science project. Minnie said, "I am glad that we are going to be partners. We really should get to know each other".

"Well, I guess you are right", replied DeVonte.

After a couple of weeks went by, DeVonte got to know her better. "You are actually a really good friend. You are nice too!" "You are nice too." Minnie said.

Now they are best friends.

Joe said, "I ate them". Then Joe had to make 300 cupcakes to replace the cupcakes that he took.
