The Donkey And The Elephant
Alec, 10, Pennsylvania
The moral of my fable is:  Help others.
My fable is:

There was a donkey and an elephant. They were not the best of friends.

One day a hunter set a trap...an elephant trap. So the donkey came along and walked over the elephant trap. He realized the ground felt a bit loose. He decided to wait and tell the elephant.

Sure enough, the elephant came and almost walked over the trap, but the donkey stopped him.

Then the elephant said, "You saved my life." The donkey said, "It's nothing."

A week later a different hunter set a trap...a donkey trap. The donkey walked over the trap and yelled "Help I'm falling!"

But sure enough the elephant raced over and while the donkey was about to hit the ground... he stopped.

The elephant caught him and pulled him out. The donkey said, "You saved my life." Then the elephant said, "It's nothing."

The moral of my fable is:  Think before you do something.
My fable is:

One day a little baby mouse was minding his own business getting cheese. The mouse didn't know it was a trap.

A snake was curled up behind a tree with its mouth wide open.

Once the mouse saw the snake it ran right back home dropping all the cheese he had found. The snake was very mad so he thought he would go home also and think of a way to catch the mouse.

Meanwhile, the mouse was building a robotic mouse that looked just like himself. The mouse turned on the robot and made him go right where the snake was hiding.

But the poor little mouse forgot to take the sticker off that said made in China. The mouse's plan was ruined.

The snake was so hungry it sank its teeth right into the robot mouse without even noticing the sticker. The mouse cheered as the snake was struggling to get his teeth out.

The rest of the time the mouse was alive the snake never tried to eat him.

But then Tony arrived! Tony is a golden retriever puppy. All John and Jenny wanted to do was play with Tony.

The day that changed my life forever was when Tony and I became friends.

It all started when John and Jenny went to school. Tony came up to my bowl and said, "Want to play?" I said, "How? I am inside a bowl!" Tony finally said, "I know what we can play, Rock-Paper-Scissors!"

We played all day long until John and Jenny came home from school.

John asked me, "Did you have a fun day with your new friend?" In my mind I was thinking I sure did.

The moral of my fable is:  Fighting fire with fire just makes more fire.
My fable is:

There was once two best friends, a dog and a horse. One day they got into a huge fight.

The horse got really mad and started a rumor that the dog had fleas. The rumor spread all around the barn. Every animal stayed away from the dog.

One day the dog asked, "Why is everyone avoiding me?" One pig said, "Don't you know you have fleas?" The dog said, "No, I don't. If I had fleas I'd be scratching like crazy. Who told you this?"

The pig said, "Your best friend the horse." The dog got really mad.

So the dog started a rumor that the horse had hoof fungus. Soon everyone stayed away from the horse. One day the horse asked, "Why is everyone avoiding me?"

The pig said, "Don't you know you have hoof fungus?" The horse said, "That's not true. Do I look like I have foot fungus? Never mind, who told you this?" The pig said, "Your friend the dog."

The horse got mad so he asked the dog, "Why did you say that?" The dog said, "To get back at you for what you said." The dog and the horse both said sorry.

They became best friends.

Kayla, 11, Pennsylvania
The moral of my fable is:  It doesn't matter what you look like.
My fable is:

Once upon a time there were two best friends. Their names were Ben and Chrisy. Ben was a dog and Chrisy was a cat. They would play everything together like hide and seek soccer, tag, and even board games.

They would also do their homework together and study together too.

One day everyone was at school, but Chrisy wasn't. She had to come late because she had a really bad stomach ache. When Chrisy got to school, she and Ben met up at her locker. Ben looked at her, Chrisy said, "What?" Ben said, "Look at what you’re wearing."

Chrisy said, "What do you mean?" Ben said, "You’re still wearing your footsy pajamas." Chrisy looked down at her clothes. Everyone was laughing and taking pictures.

Chrisy ran and cried. Ben went after her. Ben found Chrisy outside on the front steps of the school. Ben said, "It's OK. It doesn't matter what you look like or what you’re wearing, it just matters if you're being you."

Chrisy said thanks and they both walked back into school. Everyone was still laughing, but she didn't care. She just kept Ben's advice in her head.

Being Nice
Nadia, 8, Illinois
The moral of my fable is:  Treat Everyone the way you want to be treated.
My fable is:

Once there were two girls named Vicky and Meghan. Meghan always was mean to Vicky because Meghan thought that if she was big she could do anything to little kids.

Vicky was very nice. She listened to everyone. Vicky got straight A's on her report card, but Meghan got C's ,D's, or F's.

When Vicky went to the bathroom Meghan slammed the door and hit it because she wanted to get Vicky in trouble.

Christmas was a month later and Vicky wanted three things but Meghan wanted ten.

But when it was Christmas Santa gave nothing to Meghan other than a note that said, ''Meghan I watched you all year and you behaved rough so you didn't get presents. Maybe next year if you listen, then you will get presents. Sincerely, Santa Claus".

But Vicky got ten presents. Meghan learned a lesson and she never was mean again.

The Weight Lifting
Gracin & Anthony, 9, Georgia
The moral of my fable is:  If you don't brag so much, you just might have more friends.
My fable is:

Once upon a time, there were four animals that lived in a jungle in Australia named Leo the lion, Jack the kangaroo, Hopper the rabbit, and Shell the turtle.

Leo was a mean, bragging, strong, fast, and picky lion, while Jack was fast, strong and fair.

Hopper was a small, fast, but weak rabbit.

One day Leo found a very messy turtle that he thought was just a shell. It turned out to be a scared, shy, little turtle named Shell hiding in its shell.

Then, hopping down the trail was Jack the kangaroo and Hopper the rabbit.

Since Leo was so strong, he challenged Shell, Jack, and Hopper to a weight lifting contest.

This challenge scared Shell, and he tried to run as fast as he could, but he didn't get away in time. Hopper and Jack were best friends until they had an argument about who was going to win the weight lifting contest. Everybody was going crazy about who was going to win the contest.

That night none of the animals could sleep. The next night everyone was there except Shell. They looked up the rule for being absent. It said that the person must forfeit. Finally, Shell showed up at the contest but couldn't be in it.

Hopper came in first, Leo the bragger came in third and Jack came in second.
