| My
fable is:
The snake came to the robin one day and said,
"Robin, why is it that we are not better friends?" The robin replied,
"Because I know that you only want to eat me."
The snake stated
his innocence saying, "No, I come to you now
looking for your help. I am in need of advice."
The robin was surprised by this, as
many of the animals thought that he was foolish. "I may not be the best
to ask for advice. Why don't we ask the fox?"
He seemed unhappy, but the snake
agreed. "After we see the fox, then will you give me advice?",
he asked, to which the robin agreed.
The robin flew to the fox's cave,
perched in a tree outside and waited. The snake slithered up to the
fox's cave and asked the fox, "Fox, can you
give me some advice?"
What do you want?",
the fox responded. "I have caught something in
my eye and I do not know how to get it out. What should I do?",
queried the snake.
But the fox did not like the snake so
he told him, "I cannot help you.
Go ask the owl. He is said to be wise".
The snake was annoyed and called out
to the robin, "Robin, will you help me now?"
But the robin replied, "Let us listen to the
fox and ask the owl for advice".
So they went to see the owl, the robin
sharing the owl's tree while the snake called out from below. "Oh owl,
will you aid me? I am in need of advice. "What
advice do you seek?", asked the owl".
I have caught something in my eye and I do not know how to get it out.
What should I do?"
The owl deliberated and said to him,
"Why should I help you?" The snake said, "I
have asked the robin and the fox and they could not help me. The animals
of these woods know that you are the wisest of all and without your
help, I will continue to suffer this pain."
Hearing this, the owl was flattered
and said, "Let me see what is in your eye
and then I can tell you how to remove it".
He flew down from his tree to examine
the snake. Then the snake struck out at the owl, poisoning him. "What
are you doing?", cried the robin in alarm.
The snake answered,
"I had hoped to have a robin for dinner, but now I can feast on owl
instead." |
