Ducky and Roman
Scott, 8, Los Angeles, CA
The moral is:  Be happy to what you have.
My fable is:

There was a duck called Ducky. He had a fishing hook and a bed made of a pile of straws. He had a friend called Roman.

Roman was a very rich duck and he even had a golden hotel. The hotel's furniture was made of gold, the walls were painted with gold, and the party room was made of gold.

Ducky was very jealous and would think this: "His hotel is gold. I must live in one of the rooms".

But there was no room left for him.

One day, there was a hurricane which caused the river near Ducky's house to flood. But Roman's hotel was in the city and everybody including Roman was having a party. They didn't notice the hurricane heading into the city. It soon flooded in and washed off all the paint from the walls. The furniture was washed out and everybody -- even Roman -- was washed out.

Roman got very sick from the water, was sent to a hospital, and had to stay here for 20 months.

When the hurricane was over, Ducky found that the hotel was flooded while his house was still standing.

He sighed relief and said: "Whew. If I lived in that hotel, I would also have been flooded out".

From then on, he was not jealous about not living in Roman's hotel.

Choose Your Friends Wisely
Mette, 10, Oklahoma
The moral is:  Try to make friends with your enemies.
My fable is:

Once there was a cat and a mouse and they hated each other.

They tried to torture each other by playing jokes on each other.

One day the mouse played a dangerous joke on the cat. While the cat was asleep the mouse carried him to the roof. The weather turned bad and the cat began to roll down the roof.

The mouse decided he might lose his pal forever if he falls off the roof. So the mouse crawled up to the roof to wake up the cat, but the mouse sliped and was hanging off the roof screaming, "HELP!"

The cat was awakened by the scream and realized that he may lose his pal too.

So the cat jumped to the rescue and the cat and mouse realize they really could not live without each other.

Birthday Party Or Family?
Abby, 12, England
The moral is:  Always Put Family First.
My fable is:

One day two chickens named Mel and Lisa, who were best friends, were invited to go to Kelly the cow’s birthday party.

Kelly was really popular at school and all the animals were talking about this big party.

The only thing was that it was Mel’s older sister’s birthday on the same day as the party.

Mel was really upset but knew that she had to stay with her sister and celebrate her birthday instead. Lisa kept on at Mel and kept asking why she couldn’t go and that she is going to miss the best party ever and that Kelly is not going to be happy with her if she doesn’t come.

But Mel remembered what Kelly said, "If you can’t make it, then don’t worry. I won’t be angry with you."

So the next day at school, Mel told Kelly that she could not make it to her birthday party because it was her sister’s birthday on the same day.

Kelly got really annoyed and stormed off with all her friends following her.

Mel wasn’t angry because she knew to always put family first.
